Bridging culinary arts and school meals is an effort on not only the national level, but here in Texas as well.  Recently, Texas Department of Agriculture led the way with the Culinary Institute of America, San Antonio in a partnership to encourage high-school student participation in school meals and the culinary arts.

The first annual, “Healthy School Snack High School Cook-Off”  was a great success and demonstrated how the  HealthierUS School Challenge requirements can be incorporated into tasty, nutritious and appealing recipes.  Three San Antonio area high-schools:  Luther Burbank, Warren and Sam Clemens, created original recipes that incorporated HealthierUS School Challenge requirements and could be served as part of a school meal.  Luther Burbank was the winner with “Grandma’s Chicken Salad.”  We are proud of our Texas High School Chefs!  Way to Bring It!
